Pancake Fun with Kids

I have three sets of grandkids. Each set has its own pancake-making experience in my kitchen. This experience is not rocket science. It isn’t even a lot of measuring, mixing, adding to, or cooling before cutting. It’s just plain fun. Additionally, it helps a grandmother see a lot of creativity at work.

Here is the simple recipe:

2 cups pancake mix (I use Krusteaz Pancake Mix)

1 1/2 cups water or substitute orange juice for water

Combine and stir until the flour pancake mix is incorporated.

Here is the fun with kids part. Stir or decorate with any of the following items. My items have labels to represent which set of grandkids like which ingredients.

Clay and Matt: Blueberries, Sugar, and Syrup

Queen, Aari, and AJ: Chocolate Chips and Syrup

Olivia and Stella: Pancakes made with orange juice instead of water, raspberries, and syrup.

Grandma’s secret favorite: Pancakes and a side of crispy bacon (for dinner only).

The Blueberry boys: one is a young teenager and the other is a young man now.

The Chocolate Chip set of three: all are busy gifted school-aged athletes.

The Orange-Raspberry girls: growing way too fast and under age six but serious foodies.

I am planning to have them all in the kitchen making all their favorites together for one BIG messy fun time. I can’t be serious, right?
